Podcast on Augmented Reality for Frontline Workers
We've just wrapped up the first day at CES2019 and had the incredible opportunity to be interviewed by CBS News' Larry Magid about how our technology uses augmented reality in smart glasses to improve the productivity and job satisfaction of frontline workers. Listen to the podcast below.
CBS News: Larry Magid, CBS News at the ShowStoppers event in Las Vegas at CES and I'm with Seth Patin of LogistiVIEW and you have an augmented reality product for the workforce, is that right?
Seth Patin: That's correct. Yes. We're using augmented reality in smart glasses to improve the productivity and job satisfaction of frontline workers.
CBS News: What is a frontline worker?
Seth Patin: A frontline worker is someone who has a task that they have to do repeatedly throughout the day. So think folks in a manufacturing line, in a warehouse, even in a retail store where their responsibility is to do a specific task and do it right every time.
CBS News: And what would the augmented reality system do for them?
Seth Patin: Well, it's kind of like a stop and go light. Imagine if a stop and go light had a black background with white text and said stop and go. It'd be much harder to read, it'd be much harder to understand. And we actually turn work instructions into a simple stop and go with augmented reality.
CBS News: So I take it you're looking at your work, you're looking at the assembly line or whatever and through your glasses, you're seeing superimposed computer generated images.
Seth Patin: That's exactly correct.
CBS News: So they do their work better.
Seth Patin: That's that's exactly correct. Our our system uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to collect data from the workers' surroundings, and then help them make more informed decisions when they're doing their work.
CBS News: I've heard this, for example, I know Boeing uses these sometimes for aircrafts where they can see the parts superimposed on the environment where they're installing it.
Seth Patin: That's right.
CBS News: That's a little different than somebody who's working in the assembly line. But it's the same concept.
Seth Patin: That's absolutely correct. In fact, the company that Boeing uses has a great solution for empowering and improving the productivity of highly skilled workers. LogistiVIEW is focused slightly differently. Our objective is to improve the productivity of low-skilled or no skill workers to allow them to adapt into an enterprise environment rapidly and with minimal training.
CBS News:: So this means that you might be able to take a situation where somebody perhaps just got laid off, maybe they're in the rust belt and the industry that they worked for disappeared - you could get them quickly up to speed in a certain industry.

CBS News:And have you done any measurement about worker satisfaction about how the workers respond to this?
Seth Patin: Absolutely. Our our routine feedback is I've never seen anything easier than this. And to me, I get a great deal of satisfaction of that because that was really my objective. I wanted to make work in in these frontline jobs more easy and more straightforward so that people can do their job faster and more efficiently.
CBS News:What about, and I know it's not your responsibility to do this, but what about room for growth improvement, promotion there any way that your technology can help people advance their skill levels?
Seth Patin: I believe that's absolutely possible. There's definitely a path for frontline workers to move up through the ranks in any enterprise environment. And so giving the ability to take instructions very simplistically, while also recording and tracking productivity allows the best workers to very easily stand out and then really become leaders within their their particular sector of the business.
